The Traveling Swiss Says: Märchenhotel, or “Fairytale Hotel” in English, is located in the car-free mountain village of Braunwald and is part of the Swiss Family Hotels collection. Getting there is easy: take a direct train from Zurich to Linthal, then ride a scenic funicular up to Braunwald, where the magic begins. This family-run hotel is a dream for both kids and adults. It features a beautiful indoor and outdoor pool area, expansive grounds with farm animals, playgrounds, slides, and a massive indoor kids’ club with optional 12-hour childcare. There is also a tranquil spa for adults, creating a perfect balance for the entire family.
There’s a sense of wonder throughout the hotel, including in the rooms themselves. Märchenhotel offers a variety of room types and sizes. Some rooms have playful touches like hidden doors, slides, in-room games, and terraces where goats can wander past. It’s a truly unique and imaginative experience for guests of all ages. Your stay includes half board, with breakfast and a generous five-course dinner for adults. Kids have plenty of meal options too. If they aren’t up for a long dinner, they can head to the nearby kids’ club, which offers a full program of fun activities and entertainment.
As a parent, I found this hotel to be a literal dream. The setting is beautiful, the staff is warm and attentive, and it’s clear that children are not only welcome, but genuinely celebrated.
The Traveling Swiss Says: Located just outside the charming town of Appenzell, Revier Säntispark is part of a small Swiss hotel chain known for its modern, youthful energy. This location features a chic, airy lobby with stylish design touches and a relaxed, trendy vibe. The lively indoor-outdoor bar area even includes self-serve beer and wine taps, adding a fun twist for guests. On-site, you’ll find Roots, a vibrant fusion restaurant serving flavorful, globally inspired dishes in a casual setting.
Families are especially well taken care of here. The family rooms include a large queen bed, twin bunk beds, and a convenient kitchenette with a microwave and fridge, perfect for snacks or quick meals with little ones. There’s also a spacious and well-equipped kids’ playroom that features a slide, climbing area, ball pit, books, games, and a cozy movie screening area. The biggest highlight is the included access to Säntispark Water World, located just across the way. This massive aquatic center offers water slides, splash zones, wave pools, indoor and outdoor pools, saunas, and much more. It's an absolute blast for the whole family.

The Traveling Swiss Says: Perched in the mountain village of Stoos and overlooking stunning Lake Lucerne, Stoos Lodge is a proud member of the Responsible Hotels of Switzerland, with sustainability at the heart of its mission. The hotel offers a variety of room sizes and layouts, ideal for families and groups of all kinds. Cribs and toddler beds are available upon request, making it easy to travel with young children. A standout feature is the massive indoor play area—a dream come true for kids. It includes slides, trampolines, interactive games, and much more to keep little ones entertained for hours. Families will also appreciate the on-site restaurant, which serves multiple meals daily and offers a dedicated kids’ section complete with bibs, child-friendly cutlery, and coloring pages. There’s also a stylish bar area for parents to unwind while taking in the mountain views.
This recently-opened property is perfectly positioned for outdoor lovers with bountiful access to incredible hiking trails. And located just next to the record-breaking Stoos Funicular, arrival and departure us a breeze.

The Traveling Swiss Says: Located in the car-free village of Melchsee-Frutt, this stunning alpine resort is a fantastic choice for families. Frutt Mountain Resort spans multiple buildings set around the picturesque Melchsee Lake, offering breathtaking views and a serene mountain escape.The atmosphere is a mix of upscale alpine charm and cozy, modern design. The rooms are spacious, thoughtfully laid out, and perfect for relaxing after a day outdoors. On site, you’ll find five different bars and restaurants, ranging from casual lounges to upscale dining. The food was excellent at every venue we tried.
For families, this resort is incredibly well equipped. There are two large pool and spa areas, one designed specifically for families, featuring warm shallow pools, splash pads, and fun water games for little ones. If you're looking for a more peaceful experience, there is a separate adults-only spa and wellness area for true relaxation. One of our favorite features was the kids’ club. It offers childcare for children aged three and up, along with nightly themed activities like pirate nights, mini discos, and other fun programming. It’s the perfect way for kids to enjoy themselves—with or without their parents.
